AP Testing

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program of college level classes and exams that gives bright, motivated students the opportunity to earn credit or advanced placement for college while they are still in high school. AP courses and exams represent the beginning of the journey through college level academic challenges. The work students do in AP courses helps develop skills and study habits that will be vital in college. GSMST offers AP courses in many subject areas for students who are prepared to meet that challenge.

The vast majority of colleges and universities in the United States grant academic credit or advanced placement to incoming students with qualifying AP grades on the exams. Each college decides which AP exam grades it will accept in return for credit or advanced placement. It is the student's responsibility to learn about the specific policy that individual colleges may have regarding each of these exams. The college admissions office is the appropriate place to call or write for information. This information may also be published in the college catalog or on the college web-site.

Registration for these tests is done in March through the Main Office and the classroom teachers of the AP classes. Booklets describing the program in detail are available to all students prior to the registration period. A firm commitment and payment is required at registration as a test is purchased for each student who wants to take the exam.

EOCT

The End-of-Course Tests (EOCT) program is directly aligned with the standards in the state adopted curriculum as mandated by law. Any student, regardless of grade-level, enrolled in an EOCT course must take the appropriate EOCT in order to be eligible to receive credit for that course. A student’s final grade in the course will be calculated using the course grade as 85% and the EOCT score as 15% of the final grade.

GSMST students will take an EOCT in the following areas: 9th Grade Language Arts, Accelerated Integrated Geometry, Biology, American Literature (11th Grade Language Arts), US History, and Economics.

The tests have a multiple choice format, with a 2 hour time limit.
